Laboratory Testing of the Corrosion of Sintered High Alumina by BOF Slags

Project No 2001 MUH 18
Director of the Project Asst.Prof. Sedat AKKURT
Researchers Özlem Çağlar
Faculty/Department Faculty of Engineering/Mechanical Engineering
Project Term 1 years

The Aim, the Signaficance, and the Expected Outcomes of the Project:

This reseach project aims at investigating the effect of microstructural parameters of laboratory crucibles made from fine high-alumina powder (>97%) on its corrosive interactions with steelmaking slags. These crucibles will be made in the optimum set of conditions and they will later be used in a separate project for corrosion tests. Upon completion of the project the best parameters for crucible wall thickness, density, percent porosity and grain size will be determined. Grain size development and percent corrosive reaction progress for crucibles fired in different conditions will be monitored by means of SEM. Statistical experimental design techniques will be utilized to minimize the number of experimental runs.
