ME 510 Fracture Mechanics Course Webpage

Credit Structure: (3-0)3

Description :

Study of the linear elastic fracture mechanics, stress analysis of cracks, elastic-plastic fracture mechanics, crack growth, fracture mechanisms in metals and non-metals, ductile fracture, cleavage, fracture of plastics, ceramics and composites, fracture toughness testing of metals and non-metals and fatigue crack propagation.

Course Objectives :

The goals of this course are to provide an introduction to the fundamentals and applications of fracture mechanics. The student will have sufficient knowledge on fundamental concepts, material behaviour and applications of fracture mechanics. These include linear elastic fracture mechanics, elastic-plastic fracture mechanics, fracture mechanisms in metals and non-metals, fracture toughness testing of metals and non-metals and fatigue crack propagation.
