Credit Structure: (3-0)3 Catalog Description : Introduction. Phase equilibrium diagrams of binary, ternary and multicomponent systems. Use of such diagrams for service performance analysis of ceramic materials. Phase assemblage determination by the use of Dahl’s method. High temperature corrosion of refractory ceramics. Thermal properties of refractory non-oxides like SiC, graphite,etc. Course Objectives : This course is designed to introduce graduate students to the fundamentals of phase equilibria and applications to high temperature ceramic materials, microstructural analysis, high temperature corrosion. Prerequisites : None Textbook(s) : F.H. Norton, "Elements of Ceramics", Second Edition, Addison Wesley Publishing Company, Reading, MA, 1957. References : The below listed references are recommended:

Project work( 5 week) Homeworks, Quizzes, Projects: There will be a term project for this course. A project report will be submitted and presented. Computer Usage: Basic office software.
