Materials Research Labs (MRL) in

Mechanical Engineering Department

Izmir Institute of Technology, 35430 Izmir, Turkey

There is an active materials oriented research group in mechanical engineering department. Research is conducted on ceramics, metals, polymers and their composites.

Research projects related to characterization, testing, processing, improvement and development of new materials are carried out in MRL. The mechanical, chemical,  microstructural properties of many engineering materials can be tested in our lab facilities. Research activities in these laboratories are accomplished in close cooperation with the CMR (Center for Materials Research) that houses major analytical instruments like SEM, XRD and Mechanical Testing Machines. The director of CMR is also a member of Mechanical Engineering Department (Assoc.Prof. Sedat Akkurt).

The following labs are mainly used for experimental research activities in:

1.    Microscopy and Mechanical Testing Lab

2.    Materials Processing lab-1

3.    Materials Processing lab-2

4.    Materials Processing lab-3

5.    Ballistic and Impact Laboratory
