TURKISH SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH CENTER
29.08.1994
The Science and Technology High Committee, whose main data is to advise the Government to determine the long term science and technology policies of Turkey, made a series of important decisions on February the 3rd, 1993 under the chairmanship of Mr. Suleyman Demirel then the Prime Minister.
The high Committee declared, as their main goals, a high priority on information technologies, high technology materials, biotechnology, spending more on R&D, and to increase the number of researchers.
The draft of the law to establish the Turkish Science Academy and the Turkish Patent Institute and Intellectual Property Rights, including software writing, under the directives of the High Committee were sent to the National Assembly for approval. Turkey started to act in the areas of science and technology as a bridge between the East and the West which TUBITAK started in 1992 by inviting scientists and researchers from the old Soviet Union and which is newly strengthened by financial support given by the High Committee of Science and Technology.
It carries great importance in our century to commercialize the knowledge, research and development activities through innovation centers. Such centers or technoparks are established in mild climate and tranquil areas, beautifully planned and with international connections.
The High Committee of Science and Technology foresees that the government support be given to technoparks and that they coordinate their activities with TUBITAK. The Cesme Peninsula and Alacati have an ideal situation for such activities. For these reasons I heartily congratulate you and the other persons or establishments who develop and support the idea of the Alacati Technology Park and the Technology Corridor. I wish you best of success.
Yours sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Tosun Terzioglu
Chairman
