Minister visit to wind farm.   February 21, 1998

Cesme Peninsula wind mill farm currently the largest wind turbine in Turkey is ready to generate electricity from wind.  Energy production has started on the 17th, February 1998.

This Auto-Producer project will consist of 3 Enercon E-40 turbines of 500 kW  each. Total installed power will be 1500 kW. The owner of the project is Delta Plastik A.S., a subsidiary of Demirer Holding. Demirer Holding and Delta Plastik are managed by Erol and Onder Demirer.

Our B.O.T. (Build-Operate-Transfer) project, being developed by Interwind Ltd and Interwind Ltd of Switzerland received Ministerial Approval on December 19, 1997 and is installed in Summer 1998. Some 10 km to the West of this site, at the entrance to Alacati from the high way, the ARES project of Gucbirligi Holding of Izmir, will consist of 12 Vestas V44/600 turbines of 600 kW each, and a total installed capacity of 7,200 kW.

Special message to Mr. Wobben - ENERCON: After visiting the site and seeing the performance of these 3 windmills we have been very impressed with the work you have accomplished over the years. Congratulations from us all here. Dipl.Ing. Aloys Wobben, the founder and owner-director of ENERCON through his technological innovations, has contributed significantly to the advancement of wind power, having devoted his whole career to the development and promotion of wind power, which has included the development of variable wind speed and gearless wind turbines. His pioneering work means that it is now possible to integrate wind turbines into electric grids on a very large scale. Moreover, Aloys Wobben is also a successful businessman. From small beginnings, he has built up his company, ENERCON, to be the largest wind turbine manufacturer in Germany, which employs 800 people. This is a concrete example of job creation and economic development resulting from renewable energy.
