About Department
The Department of Food Engineering at Izmir Institute of Technology was founded
in 1996 with the aim of developing knowledge and skills required urgently in the
areas developing very fast in food industry. The Department offers Master of
Science and PhD degrees in food engineering.
The main research areas of the Food Engineering Department concentrate around
biotechnology, food chemistry and microbiological and food processing. These
studies include the microbiological and chemical safety of food products and
processes, defining and improving HACCP programs for different food sectors,
biologically active food packaging, biomaterials, kinetic modeling of bacterial
behavior, production and purification of value added bio-products, and
development and improvement of food processing techniques,. We invite you to
