VISITS FROM INSTITUTIONS AND UNIVERSITIES ABROAD
October 30, 2012 The Pro -Vice Chancellor of the University of Reading, Professor Steve Mithen, and his collegues visited our Institute on October 30th, 2012 to promote academic, scientific and cultural collaboration between the two Institutions. On the day of the event, there were short talks given by faculty members of both parties to introduce the University of Reading , Ýzmir Institute of Technology and its departments such as Food, Computer, Electric and Electronics Engineering. The Institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding to co-operate and foster opportunities for colloborative research, publications and colloquia, to promote staff and postgraduate research student exchanges for the purpose of personal and professional development, to facilitate the admission of qualified students from one Institution to the other for the purpose of enrolling in undergraduate and graduate programs particularly in the field of Food Engineering. A decision was made to start a joint MSc program on “Food and Nutritional Engineering”. On the next day of the visit, a seminar named “Food Engineering Research. Where from? Where to?” was given by Professor Keshavan Niranjan to all the members of the Food Engineering Department. October 3, 2012 The committee from The Kazakh Scientific Research Institute Overworking and the Food-Processing Industry visited our Food Engineering Department on October 3rd, 2012. The purpose of the visit was to discuss the possibilities of mutual cooperation and develop an international collaboration in scientific research. Chomanov Urishbay gave a seminar about their Research Institute, the condition of the Kazakh Food Industry and its products, the urgent research topics that will help to improve the already present food processes and the ones that are planned to be established for the first time. The seminar was given at the auditorium of the library to all the faculty members of the Food Engineering Department. The introductory seminar of ÝYTE Food Engineering Department was given by Gökçen Kömen, Ph.D. student and research asistant. Additionally, there were poster presentations of the research assistants of our department in the foyer of the auditorium. A protocol was signed to start mutual cooperation on researchers, teaching staff and graduate students exchange, preparation of joint projects, degree programs and organization of joint symposia and seminars.
